Zoo Zoom 5K: Recap

The Zoo Zoom 5K is a 3.1 miler through the Baton Rouge Zoo. It's a blast and very family friendly. This was my first time doing this and it was loads of fun.

I had to take a picture of the parking lot and how they painted them. Too cute! There were flamingo ones as well.

Bambi_P and I arrived early and spent our time talking and stretching. And of course a few cute pictures! This was her first 5K so she was a bit nervous, but she's a super-star so I knew she'd rock it!

We met up with some #RunLA friends. RivsHughey, KatieRUNSthis, Me, and Bambi_P. We talked about upcoming races and how excited we were to run this morning.

Posing for some more fun pictures!

We made our way to the starting line to get ready to go. It started off in the parking lot which was not too fun, but the rest of the race was great. It looped twice in the zoo and was shaded. It was also early in the morning so it made it nice and cool. Club South Runners organized the chip timing and the race and did an excellent job, it was very well planned.

My pacing was great. I was worried I started off too fast for the first mile and was going to end up breathless towards the end, but with two evenly spaced water stations (which I walked through) I had enough energy at the end to blot through the finish line in style and with a time of 34:44! That's a personal record for my timed 5Ks!

At the finish line I felt super great and stood by waiting for my friends to finish up. I caught up with Foo1585 (another #RunLA peep) and we talked while waiting to cheer on Katie and Bambi! Both of them came running around the corners like champs! Big high fives and smiles were all around!

This was a great race and I really loved the scenery, organization, and fun I had here. I'll definitely keep this on my list of favorite 5Ks.

To repeat my tweet from that day: "Today I went for a run and saw a monkey, heard an elephant, and ran... like a Tiger!"
