Monday Motivation: A League of Their Own

If you haven't seen the movie A League of Their Own... rent it.  A Classic.  Entertaining. And full of great messages.  For you Monday Motivation, here are some great moments and/or quotes that are really meaningful:

Hi, my name's Mae, and that's more than a name, that's an attitude.
Mae is a character that is in a world of her own.  She knows who she is.  She speaks out right on everything and yet, she's vulnerable and wanting to be more.  She shows this confident exterior and yet we know sh'es had it rough.  Always tenacious, always strong.

Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There's no crying! THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!
Jimmy Dugan's harsh words is a humorous point of the movie, but his message is poignant.  Emotions can sometimes get in the way of our journey and muck things up.  Sometimes it's best to just suck it up, cowboy up, and get down to business.  Always moving forward.

We're gonna win.
A positive moment from Jimmy Dugan.  Proof that even in the worst of times, with perseverance and some hope you can turn things around.  Don't give up, don't become apathetic.  Just when times seem to be at their lowest, that's when miracles happen.

You got yourself into the league. I just got you on the train.
Sometimes we relay on others to help us through our healthy journey, but keep in mind that the ultimate responsibility is solely our own.  Sure we may have trainers, nutritionists, or work out buddies.  But when it comes down to it, we're responsible for our own health.

Each girl stands, her head so proudly high. Her motto "Do or Die". She is not the one to use or need an alibi.
I love this message because when this was written it was a time when women weren't viewed as equals in society (not that it's any better now ;-) ).  But the message of "do or die" is something that seems morose, but truthful.  Our health is essentially our lives.  Living healthy is about living longer and happier.  No alibis, no excuses.  Make it count.

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great.
My favorite quote of the movie and a motto to live by.  Life's struggles are a necessity.  They put things in perspective, they help us to push through and change.  Our health journeys are downright difficult, and that's the magic.  Taking that first step... a salad for lunch, a 30 minute walk, those small steps are hard.  But each small step is a great one.

Hope you enjoy the words of wisdom from the ladies who made history.  remember that this movie was based off a true story.

Grab inspiration from these ladies who were pioneers of their time. They were strong.  And we are too.
