The Dos & Don'ts of #Fitbloggin

Here it is at last!  The week we've all been waiting for! Fitbloggin is finally here.  This Thursday I'll board a flight to Portland to spend 4 days with some really wonderful people.  I'm giddy with excitement.

As a 2 year veteran of Fitbloggin here's some helpful tips and tricks for you n00bs and all.  Make it a wonderful experience and heed the following:

1. Do be outgoing. I make this number one because it by far the most important thing you can do. If you're shy, introverted, have anxiety issues, etc. Leave em back home, dig deep, and expend the energy. You won't have fun if you stick to yourself. Just trust me on that one. If you want to have a fulfilling experience, drop your guard and really allow people in.
  1. Don't bring one bag or just a carry on. You will get swag. It will be a shitton. Trust me. I do the pack the smaller suitcase in the big suitcase and check the bags. Or bring a duffel to throw your clothes in. It's swag-fest.
  2. Do wake up early for exercise classes. I know the night before you stayed up late chatting with other ladies in their room, and that 5am bootcamp is not appealing, but Fitbloggin isn't very often and you'll live on a couple of days of no sleep.
  3. Don't clique. Generally Fitbloggin is very good about not having cliquey groups, but there are those. If you find yourself leaning towards a group or one individual, do your best to go to a different session or branch out.
  4. Do go out and see the town. If you have skip a session or event, just make the choice, but get out and see the town, especially because this is Portland.
  5. Don't be elitist/agenda pusher. I don't care how many followers you have, how much social media traffic you get, or what your Klout score is... we're all there for learning and loving. Get to know the people, create real relationships. Those will turn into advocates and ambassadors for you, trust me.
  6. Do thank Roni and her crew profusely. I can't imagine the time and effort that goes into creating such an event. She started this to help educate others and bring together like minded people. She deserves all the credit and all the accolades.
  7. Don't worry about makeup or clothes. Besides the dressy-up-social usually on Saturday night, most of us have ponytails, workout clothes still on and/or could use a shower. It's a fitness conference, not a fashion show (although there will be one!) Point is, worry less about looks and more about the experience.
  8. Do sign the post cards for the fellow Fitness people who've missed out on Fitbloggin. Not everyone can make it and poor things have to read our twitter feed those four days and lament that they can't go. Find myself or Susan of foodfoodbodybody.com to get some postcards signed and sent to our friends who couldn't make it.
  9. Don't stay behind the laptop/phone/tablet the whole time. Note taking in sessions, live tweeting etc. These things are understandable, but make sure you put it all down and take in the experience, the moments, the fun people, the town, etc.  You'll regret it if all you did was focus on blog/blog/blog.
AND!  Do go to my session that I will be co-presenting with Julie of ROJRunning.com, Alicia or PoiseinParma.com, and Cynthia of ItAllChanges.com  (with Dr. Julie) about Tackling the Taboo of Therapy.  :)

Thanks for reading, make sure you find me and introduce yourself if I don't already know you.  I giveaway FREE HUGS!

I look forward to posting pics and recap from Fitbloggin 2013 and watch out for the upcoming SWAG BAG GIVEAWAY!
